Deadly Snakes of Rarotonga

Ok, so it wasn't a deadly sea snake, but it sure as heck looked like one! I yelled snake, Breegan screamed (like a little girl - she's allowed to) and ran away, and Brian put the camera in the water to piss it off and take pictures. Meanwhile every Kiwi within a mile radius ran out of the water. Brian went snorkelling.
So, the 'sea snake' is really a unique eel found here. Terry, our resident oracle at the Shell Shop, told us that we can grab it by the head, and run our finger down it's back - in which a little fin will pop up. Ok, yep. Will try that one next time.
We were dying for pizza last night, so we bought some fresh French bread, which is a staple on the island, and made some pizza on the BBQ. It was crude, but satisfied that craving for fat...even if it was just a tiny bit of cheese that cost us $28. Incidentally, it used to be common to have your daily French bread delivered to your house everyday. Loaves would be placed on your porch, or even in your specially made 'french bread' mailbox if you had one. However, in the 70's, the Government introduced Myna birds to help reduce the bug population. The Myna birds exploded in population, and wouldn't you know it - they prefer fresh unattended French bread. They also prefer all the  fresh fruit hanging on the trees. They are an official nuisance, and like all good Government planning - the Government is now offering people small change per dead bird turned in.
We are packing right now - not to come home, but tomorrow we're off to an even crazier adventure. We're headed on a small jumper plane, to a very tiny Island named Atiu. For my birthday Thursday, we are going on a nature tour to explore ancient caves with dark pools of crystal cold water. There are also human skeletons deep inside, totally untouched or disturbed by time.  Pirates? Ancient island ancestors? No one knows, other than they are several centuries old, and no one has ever messed with the remains. I personally can't wait to see this.
There are no waivers here, or liability forms. You just go, and you're responsible for yourself. It's extremely liberating.
Off to the store to pick up some provisions for our island trip tomorrow. Not sure what type of food they have available there. Coconut and Paw Paw is good and all, but.....
